16 December 2019: Updates to Chapter Pages

As of December 2019, the chapter pages on PathologyOutlines.com now only list:

  • Author (senior authors are now merged into authors)
  • Editorial board member overseeing the chapter

From the main chapter pages only, we have now removed the Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board member review that was previously "pulled" from the topics that make up the chapter.

Here's an example of what it looked like before, with the part we've since taken out in the red box:

And here's what that same page looks like now:

This was done to reduce the "clutter" on these chapter pages.

11 December 2019: Good businesses support their community

In 2008, I created a tax exempt nonprofit, The Detroit College Promise, which provides college scholarships to Detroit Public School graduates. We recently sent out an annual appeal, click here.

I do think it is important for those of us in the business world and who are otherwise successful (whatever that means to you), to make charity or "giving back" a major part of our lives, for several reasons:

1. Our community needs our support.

2. Our businesses benefit a great deal from community services that we do not pay for, including public schools, public colleges and universities, roads, water and other infrastructure, public health and public safety. In fact, we likely get a disproportionate benefit, compared to the average person, so we should pay a lot more for it than others. Typically we are also able to pay more, even if we don't want to.

3. As we become successful or acquire power, there is a major danger that we will become arrogant and greedy and do bad things. All of us can be tempted in this way. One way to prevent this is to make a major effort to help others, to keep us in touch with the ills of the world.

4. Although our own success is due to our hard work, sacrifice and risk taking, it is also due to all the people and institutions who supported us along the way. We did not do it all ourselves. So please give back. You can support the Detroit College Promise by visiting http://www.dpsfdn.org/giving/detroit-college-promise-giving/, or another charity, but please do something to make the world a better place.
