27 October 2015: Possible textbook chapter changes

Let us know what you think about these possible changes by email to Dr. Pernick at, or stop by our booth at ASCP this week.

We are merging the Cervix-Cytology chapter into the Cervix chapter, because there is so much overlap.

We are considering merging the Home Page listings of Clinical Pathology chapters and Anatomic Pathology chapters into one large section called Textbook chapters (or something similar).  Currently there is a lot of overlap, as 11 CP chapters are in the AP section.  In addition, some chapters don't quite fit in either category, such as Forensics, and may be harder to find with this split.

22 October 2015: We have posted updates of the following topics:

22 October 2015: Jobs Page changes

We have made some changes to improve and "clean up" the Jobs pages.

First, we combined the Jobs-Other page with the popular Pathologist / PhD Jobs page.  Jobs-Other is for pathology related positions that are not for MD / DO / PhD, such as Pathologist Assistant, Med Tech, Manager, etc.  These jobs will be listed under the category Related.  We are keeping the separate Jobs-Other page for a short time, and then will remove it from the Header and Footer.

Second, we will now list summaries of all jobs still active, by date posted.

Third, we are removing links to some very old articles on Job Advice from other pathologists and Transitioning, that can be referenced here.

We have now posted versions of the Jobs, Jobs Related, Fellowships by Specialty, Fellowships by State and Conferences page, as of October 1, 2015.  If you need to look up a prior ad, we maintain these files as of the first of each month (or close to it) going back to January 2012.  The format is the name of the file, plus yyyymm, where yyyy is the year and mm is the month.  So, for example, conferences posted as of April 1, 2014 are at

9 October 2015: Conference ads and Job-Other ads

Many Pathologists were asking us for 2016 Conference dates at CAP. We encourage you to post your 2016 conferences early for these reasons: It is one price for the ad no matter how long it runs. You can post a "save the date" ad now for 2016 and then update it later. Pathologists are planning their time off for 2016 and many need to know the 2016 conference dates now. Posting your conference ad early avoids conflicting dates with other conferences that Pathologists may want to attend.  Remember we have 2 options for your ads.  You can post a large, highlighted ad with text, graphics and links for $625, or a simple, one line ad with name, location and link for $325.  You can email your ad to with a copy to

In order to mainstream the job search process, we have decided to move the Job-other ads (Pathology Assistants, Cytotechnologists, Flow Cytometry technicians, etc.) to the main Pathologist Jobs page, starting January 1st.  We will probably list them under Miscellaneous in the table of contents.  We will also be raising the price of these ads to $500, since there is significantly more traffic on the Jobs page than there was on the Jobs-other page.  We list pathology-related jobs as a service to the pathology community, but have found that certain positions such as Histotechnologists get little to no response to their ads with us.

8 October 2015: 5000th ad posted

Today we posted our 5,000th ad. It was from USCF for a Faculty position in Biomedical Science.  Looking back to January 2003, we note that our 1st ad was posted by Korn Ferry International. Besides being a valuable tool in the hunt for jobs, fellowships, conferences, products and services, these ads are the reason that our site is a free, no registration website.  Thanks to ALL our advertisers for your continued support.

8 October 2015: New Record for Visits!

On October 5th we set another record - daily total visits of 46,454! This may partially be due to us exhibiting at the CAP meeting.  If you are thinking about advertising your pathology product or service with us, now is the time!  Please email or call us at (248) 646-0325 for more information on how to reach the thousands of visitors to our site.

8 October 2015: Thanks for your comments at CAP '15

Thanks to all who stopped by our booth at CAP'15, and participated in our "focus groups" or otherwise gave us feedback.  These are some ideas we are working on:

* Use primarily images posted on our server, whose links will NOT go bad.  We will concentrate on images from authors or other contributors, the AFIP third series and Dr. Wick's images. We will not post on Flickr, which is blocked by some institutions.  We will also have a weekly "images needed" feature.  Outside websites we will continue to use (because we have special relationships) include, PathoPic, WebPath and Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine.
* Add a section at the end of each topic of 3-5 "Essential features".  Ultimately, we may be able to generate quiz questions from these essential features.
* Explore an App for the entire website, or parts of it.
* Include a Topic Search feature.
* Resume the Superpages, which have all topics associated with a chapter in one continuous page.
* Accelerate the pace of updates and new material (particularly Clinical Pathology and Neuropathology) by expanding our Editorial Board and the number of Authors.

6 October 2015: September website statistics

For September 2015, we averaged 21,315 visits per day (up 2% from last year), and had 639,475 total visits.  Our Jobs pages received 43,277 visits, Fellowship pages received 5,483 visits and Conference page received a record 10,515 visits!  We posted 53 Pathologist job ads in September, which is also a record number. We are developing a mobile version of our website which should also boost traffic. Thanks everyone for your continued support!

2 October 2015: Feature Page

Our Feature page for October is Laboratories, and highlights our publishers ARUP Laboratories and Cleveland Clinic Laboratories. It also contains an original short article, "Anatomic Pathology Laboratory: Cross-Contamination of Tissue", by Jaleh Mansouri, M.D.
2 October 2015:

In preparation for mobile capability, we have included links to all related Chapters on the main Chapter pages. We hope including these links will make navigating between Chapters easier as we transition into a mobile friendly platform. Take a look at our Skin-nontumor chapter to see these improvements in action.
